Minimum WordPress Requirements for Running Sameness

To run Sameness smoothly, make sure your setup meets these basics:

  • WordPress version 6.0 or higher

  • PHP version 8.0 or higher

  • MySQL version 5.7 or higher

  • HTTPS (SSL certificate installed)

  • Recommended: At least 512MB RAM for better performance

Most modern hosting providers already meet these standards.

Using Sameness Blocks to Build Your Brand Guideline Pages

Sameness is powered by pre-built WordPress blocks.
You can:

  • Drag and drop sections like Logo, Color Palette, Typography, Motion, and more.

  • Customize each block visually without touching any code.

  • Rearrange, duplicate, or remove blocks easily.

No plugins needed. No coding required.

How to Customize the Look and Feel

Sameness includes a special page called “Global Styles” that lets you control the overall look and feel of your brand guidelines. You can access this page directly from the page editor.

Inside Global Styles, you’ll find three main sections:

  1. Typography: Set your brand’s font styles for headings, paragraphs, and other text elements.

  2. Colors: Define your brand colors here. Once added, these will appear on your color picker — making it easy to apply consistent colors as you build your pages.

  3. Elements: These are shared design components found within multiple blocks (like buttons, toggles, tabs, etc.). Editing these lets you give your entire guideline a more branded, cohesive look.

With Global Styles, you only need to set things once — and it automatically flows across your entire pages.

Can I Edit the Code?

Not at the moment — Sameness doesn’t support custom code overrides or advanced edits right now.

It’s designed to be a plug-and-play solution using blocks, so you can build clean brand guidelines without touching code.

That said, code overrides are on our roadmap. In a future release, you’ll be able to extend or tweak things with custom HTML, CSS, or JavaScript.

How to Add and Structure Brand Sections

We’ve made it easy to build a clean brand guideline:

  1. Start with the Logo block — upload main logos, alternates, and usage rules.

  2. Add a Color Palette block — set up primary, secondary, and neutral colors.

  3. Drop in Typography blocks — show font families, hierarchy, and usage.

  4. Include Imagery, Motion, and Iconography blocks if needed.

  5. Use Custom Section blocks if you want to add something unique.

There’s no set order — build and structure your guide however fits your brand best.

How to Preview and Publish Your Brand Guidelines

You can preview your guidelines in two ways, depending on where you are:

  • Inside the Page Editor
Click the Preview button to open a new tab showing the page you're currently editing. It's great for checking layout and content before publishing.

  • From the Main Dashboard or Homepage
Clicking Preview here will show the full index page — the default homepage of your brand guidelines. This is useful when you want to see the big picture across your guideline setup.

Once you're happy with your changes, don’t forget to Save and Publish. Your brand guidelines will go live at your assigned domain.

Note: If you’re not seeing the latest version, it might be a cache issue. Refresh with Cmd+Shift+R (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows), or clear your cache to view the most recent updates.

How Clients Can View or Access the Guidelines

  • Share the public URL of the site if you want anyone to view it.

  • If you want more control, you can add password protection to the site or specific pages.

  • For edit access, just create a WordPress user account for your client.

How to Password-Protect Brand Guidelines Pages

To keep a guideline page private:

  1. In the main dashboard, find the page you want to protect.

  2. Click the three dots (⋯) next to the page to open Settings.

  3. Under Access, select Private.

  4. Set your password and hit update.

  5. Share the password with anyone who needs access.

Only users with the password will be able to view that page — perfect for sharing with clients or internal teams.
